About this role
Are you an expert in optical systems looking to leave your mark on cutting-edge developments? We are seeking a meticulous but also creative, self-driven Systems Engineer to lead the development of innovative end-to-end solutions for optical systems and instruments. You will ensure hardware meets rigorous demands of the customer's environment.
You will perform requirements analysis, define subsystem interfaces, and manage the technical lifecycle of complex optical instruments. This spans from initial feasibility studies to final validation. Your role covers system architecture, design, supplier coordination, testing, and performance characterization.
Conduct feasibility studies, manage error budgets, and flow down requirements to subsystems. Oversee design and fabrication of custom optical devices with external vendors. Define integration plans, test procedures, and lead validation activities while collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineers.
As a team player, collaborate effectively to debug and optimize systems. Characterize optical device performance relative to design goals using simulations. Join a dynamic environment driving innovative optical solutions in demanding applications.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Physics, Photonics, or a related field
- 5+ years in complex imaging systems and optical systems engineering
- Proficiency in optical design and simulation tools (e.g., Zemax)
- Solid understanding of laser sources, coherence, and measurement techniques
- Experience in tolerance simulations and manufacturing
- Ability to architect and test complex electro-optical systems
- Team player who can collaborate effectively with electrical and mechanical engineers to debug and optimize systems
Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies, manage error budgets, and flow down requirements to subsystems
- Define requirements for optical systems and components, including laser propagation (atmosphere/fiber) and electro-optical assemblies
- Oversee the design and fabrication of custom optical devices with external vendors, including component selection and technical follow-up
- Define integration plans, test procedures (OGSE), and lead validation and calibration activities
- Characterize optical device performance relative to design goals and perform system-level estimates and simulations
