About this role

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can be refuelled in orbit and carry cargo. The heart of a spacecraft lies in its engine, so we are dedicated to developing cutting-edge Propulsion Systems for efficiency and reliability. We seek a talented Turbopump Development Engineer to join our Future Project division, focusing on designing, analyzing, and optimizing turbopump components for rocket engines, especially liquid oxygen pumps.

You will make and document well-reasoned consequential decisions in turbomachinery design. Carry out mechanical design of cryogenic pump components and assemblies based on specifications and best practices. Supervise external subcontractors, communicate with suppliers, design test apparatus, define test objectives, and analyze test results.

Perform analytical modeling of geometric, mechanical, or fluidic problems and implement solutions in programs. Join an agile team that makes decisions fast while keeping goals in mind. We are open and collaborative, transparent about risks and obstacles to overcome them together.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline; alternatively, Bachelor's with substantial relevant experience
  • Strong fundamentals in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and mechanical design
  • Good understanding of industry standard and emerging manufacturing methods and their constraints
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software and drafting
  • Experience writing software/scripts in languages like Python
  • Ability to infer system-level implications of component design choices
  • Strong ability to work in close collaboration with others
  • Fluency in English
