About this role
This position is part of the Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) support to the NASA EM32 Welding & Manufacturing team under the ESSCA contract. The primary focus is manufacturing large aluminum aerospace structures using fusion welding and friction stir welding processes.
Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and validating manufacturing processes for large-scale aluminum assemblies, ensuring compliance with NASA, aerospace, and internal quality standards. You will collaborate with design engineering, materials engineering, NDE, quality, and production teams to optimize structural weld performance and manufacturing throughput.
You will work under the guidance of a senior engineer or scientist, performing assignments designed to develop professional working knowledge and abilities. As development progresses, routine assignments may be performed independently, with results reviewed for accuracy.

Requirements
- BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university.
- Previous exposure to manufacturing large, welded aluminum aerospace structures.
- Previous exposure to developing inputs into paperless (electronic) manufacturing execution systems (MES) or helping perform work under MES.
- Previous exposure to identifying and documenting manufacturing nonconformances.
- Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a B.S. with 0-5 years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop and validate manufacturing processes for large-scale aluminum assemblies, ensuring compliance with NASA, aerospace, and internal quality standards.
- Collaborate with design engineering, materials engineering, NDE, quality, and production teams to optimize structural weld performance and manufacturing throughput.
- Help establish and maintain advanced manufacturing specifications, process controls, and acceptance criteria for large, welded aluminum aerospace structures.
- Support production readiness reviews, process hazard analyses, and manufacturing risk assessments for major parts.
- Perform work under the guidance of a senior engineer/scientist, applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out engineering tasks.
- Assist in developing inputs into paperless (electronic) manufacturing execution systems (MES) or help perform work under MES.
- Identify and document manufacturing nonconformances.
