Kirkland, US · Full-time · $117,300 – $160,000
About this role
This role serves as the first line of engineering defense on the production floor, providing real-time technical judgment that keeps hardware moving through assembly with quality and confidence. The Front Line Support Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for dispositioning non-conformances, performing ME inspections and buyoffs, and coaching technicians through complex assembly challenges.
Working at full-shift floor presence—100% embedded in the production environment—the FLS ME bridges the gap between engineering intent and manufacturing execution in real time. This engineer independently dispositions difficult and novel non-conformances, collaborates with Responsible Engineers and Quality to develop appropriate dispositions, and contributes new entries to the FLS disposition guide that elevate the entire team's capability.
Quality ownership is a critical dimension of this role, as the FLS ME owns NC disposition quality for their assigned area and identifies systemic defect patterns that feed upstream into root cause investigations. They also drive operational excellence through inspection cadence optimization, NC workflow streamlining, and WOT approval rigor while mentoring newer FLS MEs.
This engineer serves as the primary technical liaison between production technicians and the broader engineering organization, putting the right people in the room for NC discussions and communicating priorities with Production Shift Leadership. The role offers direct influence on build processes and the opportunity to propose design change requests that improve manufacturability and reduce cost.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent field
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering, production support, or quality engineering role
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and work instructions
- Demonstrated experience dispositioning non-conformances or quality discrepancies in a production environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with technicians, engineers, and leadership
- Experience with root cause investigation and systemic defect pattern identification from production data
Responsibilities
- Provide full-shift floor presence as the first engineering resource for build technicians, independently clarifying processes and dispositioning potential non-conformances in real time
- Disposition difficult and novel non-conformances with limited guidance, collaborating with Responsible Engineers and Quality to develop appropriate technical dispositions
- Contribute new entries to the FLS disposition guide and coach others on proper NC writing techniques to elevate team-wide disposition quality
- Complete ME inspections and buyoffs in a timely manner while maintaining quality gate integrity across assigned production lines
- Participate in the official WOT approval rotation, providing feedback on WOT updates to ensure documentation accuracy before floor implementation
- Identify and optimize operational excellence procedures driven by floor walks, feedback mechanisms, and NC data analysis
- Propose design change requests to improve manufacturability or reduce cost, identifying opportunities from direct build observation
- Mentor newer FLS MEs on NC disposition and inspection techniques, and collaborate across shifts to ensure consistent engineering support coverage
Benefits
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge aerospace hardware assembly at a leading technology company
- Direct influence on manufacturing quality and process improvement in a high-stakes production environment
- Mentorship and leadership development through coaching newer engineers and owning WOT approval rotation
- Full-shift floor presence role with real-time technical decision-making authority
