About this role

This is a broad scoped position providing manufacturing engineering ownership of multiple assemblies for Amazon's Leo low Earth orbit satellite network. You will support new satellite assemblies early in the production ramp phase, providing critical design for manufacturability input and supporting testing of these assemblies.

As the lead Manufacturing Engineer for mechanical sub-assemblies, you will be directly responsible for production process development, introduction, improvement, and maintenance of key hardware on next-generation spacecraft. Your day includes 30% on the shop floor working with production teams, 40% independent development work analyzing production and test data, and 30% in collaborative meetings on design introductions and process changes.

This role offers the opportunity to solve challenging technical problems associated with ramping production of space hardware. You will collaborate closely with design, tooling, dynamics, thermal, test, and electrical engineering teams to achieve objectives and drive efficiency improvements.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles
  • Experience with designing test cases for functional, performance, and stress testing in hardware systems
  • Knowledge of data logging techniques and handling large data sets from test campaigns
  • Proficiency in processing test results including visualizations and analysis using scripting tools or external data analysis software
  • Familiarity with test equipment error logs and troubleshooting hardware and software integration problems
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum due to export control laws

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and disposition non-conformances to support manufacturing
  • Lead production equipment design, procurement, installation, and qualification
  • Perform material flow planning and manufacturing process definition
  • Support space hardware testing, including tooling design and data analysis
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability and Design for Testability principles to optimize production processes and test efficiency
  • Design test cases for functional, performance, and stress testing in hardware systems
  • Process test results including data analysis and visualizations using scripting tools or external software
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software integration problems using test equipment error logs
