Baltimore, US · Full-time · $101,000 – $140,000

About this role

You will serve as the site technical authority for industrial control systems in one of the most complex manufacturing automation environments in commercial aerospace aerostructures. As the first dedicated controls engineering role on the Manufacturing Automation and Development team, you will establish and grow this critical capability for production, capital projects, and advanced initiatives.

You will own controls architecture, lead external automation integrators and machine builders, and drive capital equipment specification and acceptance. Sustain performance of automated systems across multiple aircraft programs while leading internal controls development with technical rigor.

At ST Engineering MRAS, employees work on advanced technologies supporting thousands of customers and millions worldwide daily. A pioneer in complex aerostructures, engine nacelles, thrust reversers, and composites, we apply cutting-edge digital technologies and automation.

Rapidly augmenting MRO capabilities with expanded aircraft nacelle portfolio and materials expertise. Join a team with innovative ideas and drive to grow into the future, delighting customers with high say-do ratio.

  • Experience developing PLC logic, motion programs, and control system architectures
  • Expertise in configuring and programming industrial robotic systems with vision guidance
  • Knowledge of safety PLC systems and standards including ISO 13849 and IEC 62061
  • Skills in HMI development across multiple platforms
  • Familiarity with industrial networks such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and OPC-UA
  • Ability to author Statements of Work and define FAT/SAT criteria for automation equipment
  • Technical leadership in directing external integrators and sustaining production systems

Responsibilities

  • Establish site-level controls standards covering architecture, safety philosophy, platform prioritization, naming conventions, diagnostics, and version control
  • Serve as internal technical authority over external automation integrators and machine builders, directing controls scope and challenging vendor architecture
  • Author controls-specific Statements of Work and define FAT and SAT acceptance criteria for new automation capital acquisitions
  • Own the controls scope from User Requirements Specification through FAT, SAT, and production handover
  • Develop and own PLC logic, motion programs, and control system architecture across Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell, FANUC, ABB, and KUKA platforms
  • Configure, program, and support industrial robotic systems including multi-axis cells, robot-to-PLC interfaces, and vision-guided applications
  • Design, implement, and validate safety PLC systems and machine risk reduction strategies per ISO 13849 and IEC 62061
  • Develop and support HMI systems and configure industrial networks including Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and OPC-UA
