About this role
Airbus Operations seeks a PhD student to support digitalization and automation in FAF Airframe Engineering for central and rear fuselage sections. Deliver software products and services along the value chain. Drive digital ways of working to enable engineers shaping a sustainable aviation future.
Develop and evaluate dependable and trustworthy AI solutions for future aircraft design. Ensure AI systems are accurate, efficient, safe, reliable, ethical, and transparent meeting highest certification standards. Follow EASA and authorities’ guidelines and best practices for aviation applications.
Join an international and diverse team of data scientists, software developers, product managers, and engineers. Work, learn, and grow in an environment of creativity and collaboration. Collect information from various sources and communicate clearly to the Airframe community.
Establish networks with researchers and practitioners within and outside the company to exchange ideas. Contribute to improving aviation processes resilience, reducing errors and risks. Be part of the team enhancing daily work of engineers in Hamburg's largest civil aircraft production site.
Requirements
- Academic background suitable for PhD thesis in AI/ML or related field
- Curiosity about new technologies and their application to aviation industry
- Ability to collect information from various sources
- Skill in communicating technical information clearly to engineering community
- Understanding of dependable and trustworthy AI principles
- Interest in aviation design processes and certification standards
- Research aptitude for developing AI/ML solutions in engineering contexts
Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews and state-of-the-art surveys on dependable and trustworthy AI methods and applications
- Develop and implement novel AI/ML algorithms and models that meet highest quality and certification standards
- Evaluate AI solutions for accuracy, efficiency, safety, reliability, ethics, and transparency in aviation
- Follow EASA and other authorities’ guidelines and best practices for trustworthy AI
- Work with experts and researchers in dependable and trustworthy AI
- Share results and suggestions with the Airframe community and beyond
- Apply AI/ML to improve aviation processes and airframe engineering challenges
