Blue Origin

Huntsville, US · Full-time · $115,000 – $145,000

About this role

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where the focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. The position supports production and manufacturing of rocket engine components for the BE-7 Lunar Lander Engine as a Responsible Engineer.

In this role you will troubleshoot design and manufacturing challenges to resolve non-conforming hardware throughout engine development, qualification, and production. You will develop design improvements for rocket engine components and assemblies to transition into a flight production environment.

You will drive design for manufacturability improvements and update assembly procedures identified through root cause analyses, engine manufacturing, testing, and cost reduction opportunities. Components may include pressurized fluid systems, rotating hardware, 3D printed parts, and brazed or welded assemblies.

The team values continuous learning and a collaborative environment while releasing changes within CAD models and drawings using configuration management processes. Success requires balancing multiple technical issues across disciplines.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of proven experience with component design, fabrication, build, and assembly.
  • Experience examining and providing resolutions for non-conforming hardware and supporting machining and manufacturing of aerospace components.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD and large assembly model and configuration management (Creo Parametric and Windchill PLM preferred).
  • Experience in the design of turbomachinery, valves, or combustion devices.
  • Mastery of GD&T implementation and tolerance analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot design and manufacturing challenges to resolve non-conforming hardware throughout engine development, qualification, and production.
  • Develop design improvements for rocket engine components and assemblies to support transition to flight production.
  • Drive design for manufacturability improvements and update assembly procedures identified through root cause analyses and testing.
  • Detail and release changes within CAD models and drawings using appropriate configuration management processes.
  • Support production and manufacturing of rocket engine components including pressurized fluid systems and rotating hardware.
