San Clemente, US · Full-time · $115,000 – $130,000

About this role

Swift Engineering seeks an Aerospace Systems Engineer for its HALE project. Own the airframe design, analysis, and manufacturing of ultra-light parts. Demonstrate competence with RC/aircraft powertrain and solar power systems.

Lead airframe design for current and future High-Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) aircraft iterations. Oversee quality control and manufacturing processes for R&D composite airframes. Conduct parametric studies optimizing power consumption, solar collection, Reynolds number effects, solar incidence, aerodynamic efficiency, climb, and descent.

Work primarily in an office environment with occasional shop or hangar time. Expect evening or weekend work during project deadlines or flight testing. Require up to 20% domestic travel annually for flight operations and integration support.

Drive the design of next-generation HALE as technological advances enable component upgrades. Participate in flight testing and validation efforts. Grow expertise in advanced aerospace systems through hands-on leadership.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with advanced composite materials
  • Strong understanding of aerospace materials, manufacturing methods, tooling techniques, and structural behavior of composites
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MATLAB/Simulink
  • Practical experience with composite manufacturing techniques and materials
  • Proficiency in battery-powered aircraft powertrain systems
  • Familiarity with solar-powered systems or solar-integrated robotics
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the airframe design of current and future iterations of Swift’s High-Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) aircraft
  • Oversee quality control and manufacturing processes for R&D composite airframes
  • Conduct parametric studies to analyze and optimize in-flight performance metrics including power consumption and solar power collection
  • Analyze Reynolds number effects at altitude, solar incidence, and aerodynamic efficiency
  • Evaluate climb and descent capabilities through performance studies
  • Participate in flight testing and validation with up to 20% annual travel

Benefits

  • Salary: $115,000 to $130,000
