Aerodynamics Engineer Intern

2w

Odys Aviation

Long Beach, US · Internship · $45,000 – $65,000

About this role

Odys builds safe, sustainable aircraft to cut travel time in half on the world's busiest corridors. Flagship Alta enables travelers to skip big-airport hassle by using city helipads and local airports for cities less than 1,000 miles apart. The Aerodynamics team seeks an Engineer Intern passionate about applying knowledge to novel problems using low and high-fidelity tools.

Join for a 3-month summer 2026 internship with flexible dates to support activities using best-in-class simulation and experimental tools. Generate datasets that drive development of UAV Laila for commercial logistics, medical transport, and defense missions. Expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge of aircraft aerodynamics and flight mechanics.

Work with a team of expert engineers from deep tech and aerospace mastering fast iteration loops and aircraft certification. Team completed transition flight faster than peers and developed custom drones plus electrified transportation vehicles. Focus on efficient designs delivering aero performance while saving mass and easing manufacture.

Further engineering abilities while driving innovation at a crucial development life cycle stage. Mix tools to achieve designs that perform aerodynamically and support deployment with partners like Fiji Airways, Honeywell, and US Navy. Gain exposure supporting aerodynamic analysis in a high-impact environment.

Requirements

  • BSc or higher in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • Fundamental understanding of aircraft performance analysis and predictions
  • Knowledge of various aerodynamic analysis techniques, including hand calculations, VLM/panel methods, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
  • Programming experience in Python/MATLAB
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using low- and high-fidelity tools

Responsibilities

  • Support aerodynamic design with low- and high-fidelity simulations
  • Assist in development of new tools for aerodynamic analysis
  • Document work and communicate with the team
  • Perform aircraft performance analysis and predictions
  • Apply hand calculations, VLM/panel methods, and CFD techniques
  • Contribute to datasets using simulation and experimental tools
  • Analyze aerodynamics for efficient, manufacturable designs
