About this role

Boeing is seeking an Aerodynamics Engineer to join the Aerodynamics Group in Ridley Park, PA, where the team is responsible for the analysis and flight testing of rotorcraft performance, the prediction and measurement of aerodynamic loads, and the measurement of both interior and exterior rotorcraft noise. This role supports subscale wind tunnel testing of rotorcraft and rotor systems, as well as the analysis and design of innovative rotorcraft configurations, airfoils, rotor blades, propeller blades, and fuselage outer mold lines.

In this position, you will conduct performance analysis of production rotorcraft and support the conceptual sizing of new rotorcraft. You will predict airloads using analytical tools including vortex lattice and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, and support the acquisition and reduction of wind tunnel or flight test data, with travel anticipated.

You will contribute to the aerodynamic design of airfoils, wings, rotor blades, propellers, and outer mold lines of new rotorcraft, and conduct trade studies and formal optimization of rotor and propeller blades. Development of CFD models including grid generation, as well as aeromechanical models and software for rotor loads prediction, are key aspects of the role.

This position offers the opportunity to support production program Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) in optimizing the aerodynamic design of external aircraft components and understanding their impact on aircraft performance. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or non-US equivalent directly related to the work statement
  • 1+ years of experience with Aircraft performance engineering
  • 1+ years of experience in developing test designs from system level specification requirements, test planning, execution, and reporting test results
  • Experience with Rotorcraft performance (preferred)
  • Masters in Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering, or Bachelors with greater than 3 years of relevant experience (preferred)
  • Rotor Aeromechanics experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Aerodynamics, Aircraft Stability & Control, Propulsion, Acoustics, Rotor Dynamics, Wind tunnel and Flight testing (preferred)
  • Proficiency with multiple software programming languages including Fortran, Unix/Linux shell scripting, Matlab, Visual Basic, and Python (preferred)
