About this role
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Staff Aerodynamics Engineer to join our team in Melbourne, FL. This role offers the opportunity to work on revolutionary aerospace systems that impact lives globally, from stealth bombers to lunar landings.
In this position, you will perform aerodynamic analysis and design in support of development and production programs, using aircraft sizing tools to develop design spaces. You will document analysis results, generate and approve technical reports and CDRLs, and support flight test activities including planning, data monitoring, and pre/post flight briefings.
You will reduce, review, analyze, and correlate aerodynamic data acquired during flight tests and wind tunnel tests. Prior experience within a Flight Sciences organization—covering Aircraft Configuration, Propulsion, Flying Qualities, Loads and Dynamics, and Mass Properties—is recommended. You will also advocate for new tool development on legacy programs.
This role provides the chance to contribute to bids and proposal/capture programs and to work with diverse technical teams. Requirements
- Bachelor's in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 12 years of experience in the design and integration of equipment, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 10 years of experience.
- Active In-Scope DoD Secret clearance; ability to obtain and maintain Active In-Scope DoD Top Secret clearance.
- Supplier Management Team (SMT) experience.
- Knowledge of design, analysis, and/or engineering tools development.
- MATLAB experience required; prior FORTRAN experience a plus.
- Proficient with typical office toolsets such as Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficient at locating and examining technical data from Computer Aided Design.
Responsibilities
- Perform aerodynamic analysis and design in support of development and production programs.
- Perform aircraft design using aircraft sizing tools and developing design space.
- Provide documentation of analysis results, generate and approve technical reports and CDRLs.
- Support flight test activities such as planning, data telemetry room data monitoring, and pre/post flight briefings.
- Reduce, review, analyze, and correlate aerodynamic data acquired during flight tests and wind tunnel tests.
- Be an advocate for new tool development on legacy programs.
- Support bids and proposal/capture programs.
