About this role

A vacancy for an Aerodynamics Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space. The successful applicant will join the team responsible for the aerodynamic development and optimisation of aircraft. Participate in external shape aerodynamic design, generation of aerodynamic models and data on performance, handling qualities and loads.

Activities include safe separation analysis and experimental wind tunnel test campaigns in the multidisciplinary environment of Flight Physics. Collaborate with specialists of international partners involved. Deliver optimised aerodynamic solutions and data to customers on time, cost, quality.

Answer aerodynamics program specifications by developing technologies, methods, tools and competencies relative to Aerodynamics disciplines. Contribute to vehicle projects aerodynamic and flight performance requirements within prescribed objectives. Link with disciplines like structures, loads, stability & control, mass properties.

Develop expertise in numerical and experimental aerodynamic prediction tools. Acquire aerodynamic technologies consistent with Company Strategy. Link with external research community in Aerodynamics and multi-disciplinary air vehicle design.

Requirements

  • Educated to Master’s degree level in Aerospace Engineering (PhD level valuable)
  • At least 5 years of experience in aerodynamic design and characterisation
  • Strong experience in meshing and numerical aerodynamic prediction tools
  • Strong experience in generation of aerodynamic databases from experimental and CFD data
  • Strong experience in CAD tools
  • Knowledge and experience in wind tunnel test valuable
  • Knowledge and experience in safe separation valuable
  • Knowledge and experience in Python and Matlab valuable

Responsibilities

  • Design air vehicle external shapes and provide comprehensive aerodynamic models and data on performance, handling qualities and loads in steady and unsteady mode
  • Ensure optimised aerodynamic solutions and data are delivered to customers on TCQ (time, cost, quality)
  • Answer aerodynamics program specification by developing and maintaining technologies, methods, tools, skills, knowledge and competencies relative to Aerodynamics disciplines
  • Contribute to achievement of all vehicle projects aerodynamic and flight performance requirements within time, cost and quality objectives
  • Develop expertise in the appropriate use of numerical and experimental aerodynamic prediction tools
  • Acquire and develop aerodynamic technologies consistent with Company Strategy
  • Link with external research community in Aerodynamics and multi-disciplinary air vehicle design and optimisation
  • Link with disciplines relevant for physics of flight, such as structures, loads, stability & control, mass properties
