About this role

SSI is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to join the team supporting Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and related Aviation Program Offices. This hybrid/onsite position functions as the local task manager for the PMA 207 Tactical Airlift Program Fuselage Tanks Refurbishment project. Relocation assistance package is available.

The Lead Engineer manages engineering activities, requiring extensive experience in airworthiness processes, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive technical excellence and compliance. Responsibilities include conducting research, developing new engineering solutions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver cutting-edge technologies to warfighters.

Daily work involves providing technical leadership on complex airworthiness issues, staying current with NAVAIR trends and regulations, and overseeing project planning and execution. Coordinate with cross-functional teams and manage risks to ensure minimal impact on delivery while aligning with stakeholder expectations.

Represent the engineering team in meetings and build relationships with NAVAIR authorities and external stakeholders. Ensure all documentation meets NAVAIR standards, contributing to innovative solutions across multiple projects in a dynamic aerospace environment.

This role offers opportunities to lead airworthiness assessments, implement processes, and advance technical expertise in support of Department of Defense aviation programs.

Requirements

  • ABET accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering field or similar engineering discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a position requiring engineering expertise with at least 5 years in NAVAIR airworthiness type processes, to include Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) Process
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, managing and developing engineering teams
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and make data-driven decisions
  • Proficiency in using engineering software tools including CAD software (such as Anark, Creo, AutoCAD), and knowledge of simulation and analysis tools
  • Eligibility for a SECRET clearance

  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes related to NAVAIR airworthiness
  • Develop and implement airworthiness processes, procedures, and documentation
  • Conduct airworthiness assessments and reviews to ensure compliance
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of airworthiness-related projects
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project goals are met
  • Manage risks, issues, and changes with minimal impact on project delivery
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including NAVAIR authorities
