BGS Commercial Modifications Engineering Europe are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The role supports and leads the certification of large aircraft modifications to demonstrate compliance with relevant regulatory and customer requirements. Procedures are defined in the company’s Design Organization Handbook (DOH).

Reporting to the Structures Engineering Manager, work with the global engineering team across multiple time-zones to identify requirements and solutions for active and upcoming projects. Lead complex, novel and/or large-scale commercial modification certification activities. Serve as the technical focal for certification and stress issues relating to large aircraft modification programmes.

Compile and critically review structural substantiation documents for product certification and integration of new seating installations, monument and furniture such as galleys, lavatories, class dividers, first class suites and VVIP furnishing. Handle cabin interior changes including LOPAs, Passenger Service Unit layouts, LRU installations. Manage primary structure changes including antenna installations and fuselage modifications.

Mentor and coach junior and experienced engineers, fostering technical growth and leadership development. Act as Boeing representative during customer meetings such as ITCM, PDR, CDR and FAI, providing on-site support during embodiment. Promote a culture of innovation, safety, and quality throughout the engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Advanced knowledge of aircraft interior and/or primary structure modification practices and interfaces
  • Proficient in hand calculations using classic stress analysis techniques, FEA, and Technical Report Writing
  • Current or recent employment within the aerospace industry specifically working with an EASA Part 21J Design Organisation (or equivalent)
  • Has served as Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) within a DOA
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of EASA regulatory and airworthiness requirements including (E)TSO, CS-25, JAR-25 and FAR 25
  • High level of attention to detail and professional integrity
  • Ability to work on multiple programmes with varying requirements efficiently and prioritise workloads with flexibility

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical focal for certification and stress issues relating to large aircraft modification programmes
  • Mentor and coach junior and experienced engineers, fostering technical growth and leadership development within the team
  • Compile and critically review structural substantiation documents related to product certification and integration of new seating, monuments, furniture, cabin interiors, and primary structure changes
  • Act as Boeing representative during customer meetings such as ITCM, PDR, CDR and FAI and provide on-site support during the embodiment phase
  • Develop solutions to complex and challenging engineering problems and provide technical coaching and mentoring within the Structures team
  • Promote a culture of innovation, safety, and quality throughout the engineering organization
