Berkeley, US · Full-time · $107,100 – $174,800

About this role

Boeing is looking for an Experienced/Senior Aerodynamics Engineer to support BDS Phantom Works projects in Berkeley, MO. The position encompasses a wide range of leadership and execution responsibilities. These include aerodynamic design, conceptual aircraft design optimization, aero-performance analysis, aerodynamic database development, and wind tunnel testing.

Day-to-day work involves aero-performance analysis of tactical aircraft configurations and aerodynamic design and analysis of flight vehicles. Engineers plan, execute, analyze, and document wind tunnel tests. They also develop aerodynamic databases from wind tunnel, CFD, and flight test data.

The role requires integrating aerodynamic databases into 6 degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulation tools. Professionals lead trade studies, design space explorations, and vehicle optimization studies. This occurs within a collaborative environment on advanced Phantom Works initiatives.

Candidates contribute to optimizing vehicle performance through understanding aerodynamic and propulsion factors. They explore how requirements drive vehicle size and performance. Opportunities exist for leadership in specialized aerospace engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 4+ years of experience in Aerodynamics and/or Aero-Performance
  • Understanding of what aerodynamic, propulsion, or other factors impact vehicle performance, and how they can be used to optimize performance
  • Understanding of how the vehicle size is driven by performance and requirements
  • Experience in performing trade studies and vehicle design optimization
  • Experience conducting wind tunnel testing
