Anduril

London, GB · Full-time · £65,000 – £95,000

About this role

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. The family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system creating realtime 3D command and control. Anduril brings cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking to the military rapidly.

Anduril seeks a Stress Engineer for the Maneuver Dominance team in London, developing aerial robotic systems for coordinated teams with ground forces. Work on core product development for unmanned rotorcraft, including analysis of a novel payload carriage and release system. The ideal candidate is practical, hands-on, and a self-starter with high growth potential.

Drive analysis using first principles, hand calculations, spreadsheets, and MATLAB/Python models, progressing to complex FEA simulations for stress, frequencies, and fatigue. Collaborate with Mechanical Design Engineers to refine solutions based on best practices. Participate in defining requirements, proposing solutions, and verifying mechanical systems with UK and US partners.

Support test design, execution, and data processing for static, dynamic, vibration, and fatigue validation. Contribute to team tools, processes, and standards while fostering a positive collaborative environment. Travel to test sites and vendors as needed to advance development.

Requirements

  • BEng, BSc, MEng, MSc or higher in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years in a technical engineering role in a professional aerospace setting with demonstrated track record of successful stakeholder management, consensus building, and project delivery
  • Strong proficiency in FEA software (ANSYS or Abaqus preferred) for linear and non-linear static analyses
  • Experience in NX/Teamcenter and proficiency in CAD software with emphasis on complex fixturing and tooling design
  • Proficiency in Matlab or Python for developing analytical models, data acquisition, and automation
  • Strong technical knowledge in core engineering principles, fundamental mechanics of composite and metallic materials, design, analysis, and testing
  • Deep understanding of load paths, design practices, and hand calculations to design robust structures

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the analysis of the payload carriage and release system for a novel aircraft type
  • Use first principles as a basis for every decision and apply progressively more complex analysis methods including hand calculations, spreadsheets, and MATLAB/Python models
  • Develop computational models and simulations to predict stress distribution, natural frequencies, load paths, deformation, fracture, and fatigue life
  • Work in collaboration with Mechanical Design Engineers to create and refine design solutions based on best practice
  • Participate in technical efforts to define requirements, propose solutions, and establish methodology for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems from a stress perspective
  • Support the design, instrumentation selection, execution, and data processing of tests including static, dynamic, vibration, and fatigue tests
  • Actively contribute to the enhancement of team tools, templates, processes, and standards
  • Travel to test sites and vendors to support development test activities as needed
