About this role

The Mobility, Surveillance & Bombers Organization within Boeing Defense, Space & Security seeks an Associate Aerodynamics Engineer for the Flight Systems Capability Aerodynamics team. This role supports Boeing Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft such as P-8, E-7, KC-46, VC-25 and other MS&B portfolio aircraft/projects. Engineering and technical decisions drive aircraft performance and stability.

Under close supervision with on-the-job training, generate aircraft flight performance data/charts and assess stability & control characteristics. Apply analytical methods including computational fluid dynamics (CFD), takeoff/landing/mission analysis, and performance database development. Assist with wind tunnel testing and certification processes for civilian and military qualifications.

Work 100% onsite in Tukwila, WA, across different organizations requiring strong analytical and communication skills. Sporadic off-shift work supports aircraft production/operational needs. Collaborate on design, analysis, and testing of aerodynamic flight vehicles.

Gain skills in aerodynamic analysis tools and processes for various platforms. Support development of technologies to improve vehicle performance and reduce cycle time. Contribute to test requirements for wind tunnel, ground, and flight testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering, with Aerodynamics or Aerospace emphasis
  • 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • General familiarity of aircraft flight characteristics
  • General familiarity of aerodynamic analysis methods
  • Familiarity with aerodynamic analysis principles, processes, methods, and aerodynamic testing of flight vehicles
  • Familiarity with aircraft performance and/or stability & control
  • Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the design and analysis of aerodynamic/aerothermodynamic flight vehicles to ensure that requirements are met
  • Supports the development of new and improving existing technologies, tools, and processes to enhance technology readiness, improve vehicle performance, and reduce cycle time and cost
  • Assists with development of test requirements including wind tunnel, ground, flight, accident and incident and product support testing of aerodynamics or aeroheating/thermal characteristics
  • Assists in training
  • Works under general supervision
  • Generates aircraft flight performance data/charts and assesses stability & control characteristics
  • Assists with certification and qualification processes of aerodynamic characteristics for civilian and military flight vehicles
