About this role
Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking an Aerospace Systems Safety Engineer to join the team in Hazelwood, MO. This role focuses on leading system and software safety engineering work on a Proprietary Air Dominance program.
You will drive hazard analyses, demonstrate compliance to MIL-STD-882E and other standards, and influence system architecture to reduce safety risk. The selected candidate will provide technical guidance and perform critical System Safety or Software Safety Engineering work.
In addition to working with System Safety personnel, you will work extensively with design, development, and test teams to incorporate robust safety features and reduce project safety risk. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Mid-Level (Level 3) or Senior (Level 4) Associate Aerospace Systems Safety Engineer. This role provides the chance to resolve multi-functional technical issues and influence the safety of next-generation aerospace systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
- Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with aircraft systems (e.g., navigation, avionics, fuel, hydraulics, pneumatic, etc.) including operations and troubleshooting
- Working knowledge and experience developing/applying aviation related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA) and Safety Assessment Report (SAR)
- Experience implementing Department of Defense system safety standards MIL STD 882E
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience applying systems engineering principles during the development of complex hardware/software solutions on an aerospace platform
Responsibilities
- Perform and document safety analyses for systems and software
- Analyze the integration of complex airplane systems and their corresponding airplane-level effects, failure indications, and flight crew actions as part of a system of systems analysis
- Document safety analyses, hazard mitigation, validation, and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards such as MIL-STD-882E
- Demonstrate safety hazard risk mitigation and control methods to the customer and regulators
- Identify safety issue systemic root causes and recommend corrective actions using industry best practices
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements
- Participate in tests and analyses to verify that systems meet the defined safety requirements
- Resolve multi-functional technical issues
