About this role

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Propulsion Engineer to join the Propulsion Department within the Vehicle Systems Division. This position involves performing technical evaluations and assessments of propulsion systems for high-priority space missions.

You will assist in evaluating propulsion system design, performance, and applications, developing analytical tools to assess solid rocket motor internal ballistics, combustion stability, and motor performance. The role includes providing real-time support for customer tests, flights, and anomaly resolution efforts.

Working within the Solid Motors and Propulsion Technologies section, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on hardware reviews, flight data reviews, and flight readiness assessments. The department delivers timely, objective, and actionable technical advice to program offices and government personnel.

This position offers the chance to develop expertise in cutting-edge propulsion technologies and contribute to the nation's space programs. You will work full-time on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Strong technical foundation in propulsion system design, performance, and evaluation
Knowledge of solid rocket motor internal ballistics, propellant combustion, and ablative nozzle erosion
Experience with analytical tools for rocket stage performance and combustion stability modeling
Ability to learn new technologies and systems effectively
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary team environments

Responsibilities

Assist in the evaluation of propulsion system design, performance, and applications
Develop and apply new and existing tools and analyses to assess space propulsion system performance in ground test and flight
Identify, assess, and mitigate hardware and operational risks associated with components, systems, and interfaces
Provide real-time support for customer tests, flights, and anomaly resolution efforts
Participate in multidisciplinary teams including technical interchange meetings, hardware reviews, flight data reviews, and other activities to assess flight readiness
Assist with propulsion laboratory experimental efforts, including test execution, data analysis, and design upgrades
Prepare reports and presentations to communicate results and recommendations to Aerospace program offices and government personnel
