Bristol, GB · Full-time · £55,000 – £75,000
About this role
ALTEN is a global engineering and technology consultancy operating across over 35 countries, partnering with leaders in Aeronautics, Aerospace, Defence and more to deliver innovative solutions. We’re seeking a Senior Structural Model Owner to take ownership of the aircraft Global Finite Element Model (GFEM), the core model for loads, static strength, structural dynamics, and aeroelastic analysis. This aircraft-level role influences downstream stress, loads, and flight physics activities.
You’ll own and develop the GFEM, acting as the focal point for all related activities across Loads & Dynamics. Define and manage model inputs from stress, design, mass properties, and systems teams while performing model validation including static checks and dynamic behaviour. Lead model reduction using superelements and component mode synthesis, implementing updates from design and configuration changes.
Sit at the centre of the programme, collaborating across airframe, loads & dynamics, and flight physics teams. Support multibody model development, manage configuration and version control, and deliver reduced models for various analyses. Correlate models with Ground Vibration Test (GVT) and flight test data.
Join passionate, agile engineers on cutting-edge projects shaping technology and sustainability. Empower to innovate, solve complex challenges, and deliver impactful solutions. Start building tomorrow’s world today at ALTEN.
Requirements
- Strong experience in finite element modelling within aerospace or complex structures
- Experience working at sub-assembly or full aircraft model level (not just detail stress analysis)
- Proven background in model reduction techniques (e.g. superelements, Craig-Bampton, CMS)
- Solid understanding of loads, structural dynamics, and aeroelasticity
- Experience with model validation and correlation (e.g. GVT, test data)
- Proficiency with tools such as MSC Nastran or Altair Optistruct
- Experience using Python or MATLAB for automation or analysis workflows
- Exposure to multibody modelling
Responsibilities
- Own and develop the aircraft-level Global Finite Element Model for loads, static, and dynamic analysis
- Act as the focal point for all GFEM-related activities across the Loads & Dynamics function
- Define, negotiate, and manage model inputs from stress, design, mass properties, and systems teams
- Perform and document model validation (static checks, dynamic behaviour, and quality assurance)
- Lead model reduction activities (e.g. superelements, component mode synthesis)
- Implement updates driven by design changes, weight evolution, and configuration changes
- Support multibody model development and integration
- Manage model configuration, version control, and release processes
Benefits
- Work on cutting-edge projects that shape the future of technology and sustainability
- Partner with industry leaders across Aeronautics, Aerospace, Defence, Naval and more
- Join teams of passionate and agile engineers delivering innovative engineering solutions
- Empower talented engineers to innovate, solve complex challenges, and deliver impactful solutions
