About this role
The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) seeks an experienced Avionics Engineer to lead the Airborne Test and Verification (ATV) Branch within the Command, Control, and Communications Division. This role combines technical leadership with branch management, overseeing 7-15 full-time employees and multiple sponsored research projects.
As Branch Head, you will define and design military avionic systems and systems-of-systems, including navigation, tactical data links, electronic warfare, and integrated system functions like data fusion and resource management. You will apply knowledge of aircraft safety, security, robustness, and performance to integrate avionics within aircraft and across aircraft-to-aircraft and aircraft-to-ground systems.
The ATV Branch is a multidisciplinary team that provides rigorous software, system/subsystem, and platform-level testing planning, execution, analysis, and reporting. You will analyze laboratory and flight test data for functionality and performance, and provide expertise and technical leadership to programs and sponsors throughout the full development life-cycle.

Requirements
- Recognized subject matter expert (SME) in technical domain
- Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies
- Proficiency with laboratory analysis hardware and software development environments
- Experience applying Agile methodologies to avionics development
- Knowledge of aircraft safety standards (e.g., FAA standards), security, robustness, and performance
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage sponsored research projects
Responsibilities
- Lead multiple sponsored research projects as Branch Head
- Manage branch administrative activities including hiring, appraisals, and sponsored project success
- Define and design military avionic systems and systems-of-systems, including navigation, tactical data links, electronic warfare, and defensive countermeasures
- Develop integrated system-level designs and hardware/software subsystem designs
- Integrate avionics systems within aircraft, aircraft-to-aircraft, and aircraft-to-ground systems
- Analyze laboratory and flight test data for functionality and performance
- Provide expertise and technical leadership to programs and sponsors through the full development life-cycle
- Lead and contribute to white papers and proposals, and seek out new research opportunities
