About this role
The Boeing Mobility, Surveillance & Bombers Organization seeks an aircraft-focused Associate Aerodynamics Engineer for the Flight Systems Capability Aerodynamics team in Tukwila, WA. This role provides engineering and technical decisions for Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft like P-8, E-7, KC-46, VC-25 and other portfolio projects. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential for working across organizations.
Under close supervision, learn aircraft aerodynamics methods including computational fluid dynamics, takeoff/landing/mission analysis, performance database development and wind tunnel testing. Generate flight performance data/charts and assess stability & control characteristics for various platforms. Assist with civilian and military certification and qualification processes of aerodynamic characteristics.
This 100% onsite position supports aircraft production/operational needs with sporadic off-shift work. Join a team enhancing technology readiness and vehicle performance while reducing cycle time and cost. Collaborate on design, analysis and testing of aerodynamic flight vehicles.
On-the-job training offers excellent opportunity to build skills in analytical tools and processes. Develop expertise in aircraft performance data management and aero testing. Contribute to new technologies for Boeing Defense, Space & Security division portfolio.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent directly related to the work statement
- Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering with Aerodynamics or Aerospace emphasis
- 2 or more years related work experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience
- General familiarity of aircraft flight characteristics
- General familiarity of aerodynamic analysis methods
- Familiarity with aerodynamic analysis principles, processes, methods, and testing of flight vehicles
- Familiarity with aircraft performance and/or stability & control
- Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis
Responsibilities
- Assist with the design and analysis of aerodynamic flight vehicles to ensure requirements are met
- Support development of new and improvement of existing technologies, tools, and processes to enhance technology readiness, improve vehicle performance, and reduce cycle time and cost
- Assist with development of test requirements for wind tunnel, ground, flight, and product support testing of aerodynamics characteristics
- Generate aircraft flight performance data/charts
- Assess stability & control characteristics for various platforms
- Assist with certification and qualification processes of aerodynamic characteristics
- Assist in training
- Work under general supervision
