General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has an opening for an Aerodynamics Engineer Intern to join the Munitions Business Unit Engineer team at the Bothell site. The company delivers ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations.

The intern will undertake administrative and support tasks for the Munitions Engineering department. These tasks apply basic engineering skills in a highly active environment with assignments of increasing complexity based on demonstrated abilities.

The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams on technical projects associated with the core mission. Work occurs among a technically accomplished group of colleagues in a flexible environment where contributions are recognized.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical or similar Engineering degree program or within 6 months of graduation
  • Experience exercising Computational Fluid Dynamics applications such as STAR-CCM+
  • Familiarity with CAD or CAE applications such as CREO
  • Experience utilizing lower order aerodynamic predictive tools such as Missile Datcom
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing and aerodynamic database development
  • Experience with general purpose modeling codes such as Matlab and Simulink

Responsibilities

  • Exercise Computational Fluid Dynamics applications such as STAR-CCM+ for aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic characterization
  • Utilize lower order aerodynamic predictive tools such as Missile Datcom for aerodynamic characterization
  • Conduct wind tunnel testing and aerodynamic database development
  • Create and modify part and assembly geometry using CAD applications such as CREO
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in completion of assignments and prepare data for analysis
  • Conduct engineering analysis of simple problems relating to gas generation systems
  • Perform trade studies and parametric analyses using general purpose modeling codes such as Matlab and Simulink
