About this role

Experienced Structures Stress Analysis Engineer for developing and certifying new aircraft and related product designs at Cirrus Aircraft. Develops analysis and test methods used for structural substantiation. On-site in Duluth MN preferred with relocation support; remote available within the United States with current payroll services.

Generate and review structural analysis of aircraft primary and secondary structures, including detail part sizing and strength assessment using classical hand analysis and FEA. Responsible for stress analysis and test documentation generation and review, such as test reports and plans. Assist in developing aircraft structural layout.

Leads project assignments, anticipates tasks, and takes responsibility for designs and outcomes. Handles Material Review Board non-conformances by developing repair dispositions and substantiation. Develops FAA certification plans in a team-oriented environment.

Mentor and coach less experienced stress and design engineers while participating in continuous improvement activities. Recognized within engineering for structural technical competence. Builds effective teams and optimizes work processes for efficient workflows.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4-year Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with at least 14 years of experience in aircraft structural analysis, testing and FAA certification
  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft structure, materials and manufacturing processes including composites
  • Thorough understanding of load paths, stability of structures, and aircraft structural behavior including developing internal loads and component loads
  • Classical hand analysis including composite laminate plate theory
  • Highly experienced with Finite Element Analysis (FEMAP/Nastran preferred)
  • Knowledge of FAA Part 23 regulations for aircraft certification
  • Experience with composite repair design and substantiation
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, guidance and decision making

  • Generate and review stress analysis and test documentation including test reports, design reports, test plans, and test reports
  • Assist in developing aircraft structural layout
  • Lead project assignments and take responsibility for designs and design outcomes
  • Develop repair dispositions and repair substantiation for MRB non-conformances
  • Develop FAA certification plans
  • Develop and validate analysis methods
  • Mentor and coach less experienced stress engineers and design engineers
