About this role
As a Propulsion Engineering Intern at Impulse Space, you will work on propulsion development projects alongside a fast-paced, agile team dedicated to building high-performance spacecraft from a clean sheet design. This internship provides direct exposure to the propulsion development lifecycle from concept through testing.
You will own critical aspects of propulsion component and system development, working with design, test, and manufacturing teams to produce and validate hardware. You will ensure that hardware performance and function meet intent, and resolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutions.
The team is fast-paced and agile, reporting to Shubhanker Kapoor, and you will collaborate closely with design, test, and manufacturing. You will deliver high-quality hardware, analyses, and documentation while working on-site in Redondo Beach, California.
This internship offers the chance to contribute directly to spacecraft propulsion development in a hands-on role with significant ownership. You will develop skills in component and system development, hardware validation, and technical problem-solving. This internship is well-suited for students aspiring to work in aerospace propulsion.
Requirements
- Recent completion or working towards a degree in engineering, science or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to take project ownership and work well in a small team
- Demonstrated hands-on experience working with fluid or mechanical systems
- Proficiency in basic principles of fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, and materials
- Familiarity with analysis programming such as MATLAB, Python, Excel, etc.
- Prior experience in hardware development and/or testing
- Willing and able to work on-site in Redondo Beach, CA for the duration of the internship
- This role may require overtime hours; interns are eligible for overtime pay
