Based in our thriving Manufacturing Centre of Excellence in East Cowes, this newly created role reports to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads ME Technical functions through Functional Leads and Technical Authorities, including Materials & Processing, NDT, Industrial Engineering, Tooling & Metrology & CAM. They lead a diverse, multi-disciplined team focused on process control to eliminate defects using GKN Aerospace Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite. Deploy engineering resources to Production & Development Programs while ensuring compliance to functional processes.

With a wider team of over 40 engineering professionals and 5-7 direct reports, this is predominantly a people management role. Experience successfully leading and developing performing teams is essential, alongside technical support focused on mat lab. Candidates with a background or understanding of material science will be of particular interest.

Deliver robust, capable manufacturing process technology for materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly. Requirements

  • Experience successfully leading and developing performing teams
  • Background or understanding of material science
  • Knowledge of Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite
  • Expertise in Materials & Processing, NDT, Industrial Engineering, Tooling & Metrology, and CAM functions
  • Ability to deploy engineering resources to Production & Development Programs
  • Skills in delivering robust manufacturing processes for materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly
  • Proficiency in process control and defect elimination strategies
  • Technical support capability, particularly with mat lab

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems and deliver manufacturing systems fulfilling Safety, Quality, Producibility & Business case requirements
  • Lead engineering teams to deliver measurable, metrics-driven results in line with Operational and Program goals
  • Develop, deploy and maintain functional engineering standards
  • Develop and deliver manufacturing engineering training strategy; lead capability & career development of the engineering team
  • Build a culture of process control and Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) mindset in the manufacturing engineering team
  • Implement tooling and production planning from original concept through to production using GKN ZDM tool suite
  • Manage product development, new product quotes, tool fabrication quotes, first article development and configuration changes
  • Maintain positive team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
