About this role

Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize high-performance propulsion for aerospace and defense, from hypersonics to satellite maneuvering. As a Staff Turbomachinery Engineer, you will be a key member of a small talented team refining turbomachinery technology across multiple engine platforms. You will own portions of the turbopump technology and report to the Manager of Turbomachinery Engineering.

Support conceptual design and development of new turbomachinery as the subject matter expert in key areas. Perform necessary design trades, preliminary design work, and analysis to advance projects. Collaborate with the Turbomachinery Design team on high-performing, state-of-the-art detailed designs that are manufacture-able and flight ready.

Troubleshoot performance or reliability issues in existing Ursa Major turbomachinery within your expertise areas. Provide an active voice in engine test and development efforts. Thrive in a fast-paced startup environment with a supportive team.

This hybrid role allows 2-3 days per week in Berthoud, Colorado, or remote US-based with regular travel. Tackle exciting challenges while contributing to critical national security demands. Join to refine propulsion systems that solve urgent needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 5+ years experience in turbomachinery design and development
  • 2+ years experience working with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or PTC Creo
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup environment
  • Significant experience or technical expertise in one or more of: rotor dynamics, balancing fundamentals, turbine stage aero-mechanical design, hydrodynamic design of pumps/inducers, turbomachinery detailed layout and design
  • Experience in turbomachinery related analysis software (ANSYS FEA, CFD or other specialized software)

Responsibilities
