About this role
Vast is developing next-generation space stations like Haven-1, the world’s first commercial space station launching soon, to enable continuous human presence in space by 2030. As Senior Propulsion Engineer, reporting to the Senior Manager of E-2 Engineering, you will create the highest performing engine for small launchers while optimizing for production and low cost. Your work will complete flight engine design and transition the system from development to production.
Join a team with exciting momentum that has produced and successfully tested fully integrated engine development samples. You will advance E-2 design by creating models, drawings, calculations, and analyses with the team and Chief Engineer. Support manufacturing through 3D-printing, machining, post-processing, inspection, and incorporate feedback to improve design.
Assist integration with propulsion component assembly, build, and testing, while creating schematics and documenting processes. Participate in engine testing, provide troubleshooting support, and communicate progress and issues effectively across the team. Always follow safety procedures and wear personal protective equipment.
Work alongside the most talented people committed to executing the mission safely and on time. Contribute to advanced microgravity research, manufacturing, and a new space economy for government and private customers. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience with mechanical design, development, fabrication, assembly, or test (internships included)
- CAD (NX preferred)
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- ANSYS
- MATLAB
- Hands-on engineering (computer to wrench to broom)
- Able to lift 25 lbs unassisted
Responsibilities
- Advance the design of E-2 with team and Chief Engineer
- Create models and drawings of parts and assemblies

- Support manufacturing of E-2 parts through 3D-printing, machining, post-processing, and inspection
- Incorporate feedback to improve design for manufacturing

Benefits
- Base salary $110,000—$140,000 USD (California)
