The Senior Manufacturing Engineer (CAM), based in East Cowes, reports to the Functional Head of CAM and provides technical expertise for zero defect projects using engineering and problem-solving skills. Accountable for robust, capable manufacturing process technology in materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.
Generate CAM programmes for most machines across sites and take ownership for the CAM function at GKN Cowes. Deliver local project technical oversight for NC Programming solutions to complex problems. Implement global processes from concept through production, developing solutions with high process capability using Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tools.
Exemplify a safety-first mindset, ensuring compliance with GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies. Provide expertise to solve vendor schedule and quality issues rapidly. Support breakthrough technologies like large scale 5 Axis & NDT machines and Automated Fibre Placement processes.
Lead positive team relationships with internal and external customers and co-workers. Drive continuous improvement through Lean initiatives. Relocation assistance available for candidates interested in relocating from the mainland, with no limits to career growth.
Requirements
- Technical expertise in Manufacturing Engineering, ideally with a professional qualification/background (HNC/HND) in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical)
- Fully competent in own field with specialist knowledge of CAM
- Able to collaborate effectively with other departments
- Solid, demonstrable experience in use of CAM programming software (CATIA preferred, cross-training provided for right candidate)
- Experience generating CAM programmes for NC machines in aerospace manufacturing
- Knowledge of Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite
- Familiarity with 5 Axis machining, NDT machines, and automated processes like Fibre Placement
Responsibilities
- Provide local project technical oversight for the development of NC Programming solutions to complex problems
- Implement the global process to create NC Programs, from original concept through to production
- Develop NC Programming solutions for high degree of process capability, utilising the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite
- Own the CAM Cowes BMS system and ensure documents reflect process used, with periodic review and updates
- Exemplify a safety-first mind-set and ensure compliance with GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies
- Provide technical expertise to rapidly solve issues pertaining to vendor schedule and/or quality
- Support implementation of breakthrough Technologies including large scale 5 Axis & NDT machines and Automated processes such as Automated Fibre Placement
- Continuous improvement of production processes by implementing Lean initiatives
