Northrop Grumman seeks a Principal (Level 3) or Senior Principal (Level 4) Production Engineer for manufacturing and process-engineering expertise in medium-caliber ammunition production programs. This role provides project management and comprehensive automation support for electro-mechanical fuze assemblies. Engineers design, deploy, and maintain automation cells in Plymouth, MN offices.
The engineer delivers end-to-end manufacturing engineering support while collaborating with project teams to streamline designs for manufacturability and automation. Responsibilities include integrating robotics, advanced inspection, and testing for rapid, cost-effective delivery of high-quality products. Daily challenges involve hands-on technical problem solving and inter-department collaborations.

Requirements
- Strong engineering fundamentals in manufacturing and process engineering
- Experience providing technical expertise and project management for automation in production programs
- Proficiency with robotics, vision/inspection systems, and testing technologies
- Knowledge of PFMEAs, preventative maintenance, and spare part management
- Ability to coordinate prove-out plans and training for automation solutions
- Familiarity with PLC programming and data analytic platforms such as Thingworx and Kepware
- Skills in design-for-manufacturability and automation standardization
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assemblies and high-volume production
Responsibilities
- Deliver end-to-end manufacturing engineering support for electro-mechanical fuze assemblies
- Design, deploy, and maintain automation cells
- Collaborate with project teams to streamline designs for enhanced manufacturability and automation
- Integrate cutting-edge technologies such as robotics, advanced inspection, and testing
- Support implementation and ensure optimal uptime of automation solutions through prove-out plans and preventative maintenance
- Perform PFMEAs, spare part management, and training
- Coordinate design-for-manufacturability and automation opportunities for new product development efforts
- Assist in automation standardization including acceptance checklists, PLC and data analytic platforms, design checklists, and cross-sector collaboration
