About this role

RTX seeks Aerospace Systems Engineers to perform Operations, Maintenance and Engineering (OM&E) Command and Control functions for a proprietary customer. Key focus areas include Satellite Flight Operations, Mission Planning, Vehicle Operations and Engineering, and Ground Systems Engineering in a 24/7 operations environment. The role supports an integral onsite team in the Springfield/Dulles, VA area.

Systems Engineers work rotating shift schedules based on team needs, assisting operational teams with real-time command and control. They monitor satellite and ground system telemetry, report anomalous performance, and interact with team members to validate requirements. Daily tasks involve creating and implementing operations plans using complex software and hardware systems.

This position joins a larger team utilizing a dynamic workforce, including many experts in their fields. Engineers support 24/7 operations as part of certified subject matter experts essential to customer success. The onsite role requires Top Secret/SCI with Counterintelligence Polygraph clearance prior to start.

After comprehensive on-the-job training, candidates become part of a certified team integral to customer success. They crosstrain in other operational positions as assigned and assist with training contract team personnel. Fall 2026/Spring 2027 start expected due to clearance process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Physics
  • 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships)
  • U.S. citizenship required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for security clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI with Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph clearance
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA desired
  • Experience providing/receiving training to/from a wide range of learning techniques and styles
  • Proficient use of both Windows and Unix platforms
  • Experience with Perl, Python, VBA or other scripting languages

Responsibilities

  • Assist in execution of real-time command and control and mission planning activities to satisfy customer requirements
  • Monitor satellite and ground system telemetry
  • Report and document anomalous performance and interact with team members to validate operational requirements performance
  • Create and implement daily operations plans using complex software and hardware systems
  • Support test activities as necessary
  • Work rotating 12-hour shifts and overtime on a regular basis
