About this role
Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems. We design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems. As a Staff Turbomachinery Engineer, you will own portions of the turbopump technology and provide an active voice in engine test and development.
You will support conceptual design and development of new turbomachinery as the subject matter expert in key areas. Perform necessary design trades, preliminary design work, and analysis to support this. Collaborate with the Turbomachinery Design team to create high performing, state-of-the-art detailed designs that are manufacture-able and flight ready.
You will support existing Ursa Major turbomachinery to troubleshoot performance or reliability issues in your areas of expertise. Requirements
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- 5+ years experience in turbomachinery design and development
- 2+ years experience working with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX or PTC Creo
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup environment
- Significant experience or technical expertise in one or more of: rotor dynamics, balancing fundamentals, turbine stage aero-mechanical design, hydrodynamic design of pumps/inducers, turbomachinery detailed layout and design
- Experience in turbomachinery related analysis software such as ANSYS FEA, CFD or other specialized software
Responsibilities
- Support conceptual design and development of new turbomachinery as subject matter expert in one or more key areas
- Perform design trades, preliminary design work, and analysis to support turbomachinery development
- Collaborate with Turbomachinery Design team to create high performing, state-of-the-art detailed designs that are manufacture-able and flight ready
