Tucson, US · Full-time · $125,000 – $175,000
About this role
In the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) department, we design, integrate, and optimize guidance, navigation, state estimation, and control algorithms to meet mission objectives. The Flight Sciences department seeks a Senior Engineer with expertise in flight control system design, integration, and performance assessment for missile systems. Serve as Autopilot Lead for a Strategic Missile Defense program at our Tucson, AZ location.
This onsite role applies knowledge of advanced controls and inertial sensors to flight controls design and analysis of missile performance in simulation, ground test, and flight test. Develop solutions to complex control problems and contribute to resolving issues in flight controls systems development and implementation. Provide guidance and oversight for the flight controls function from planning through program execution.
Work within the GNC Flight Sciences team supporting new business initiatives and technology roadmaps. Collaborate on endo-atmospheric and exo-atmospheric flight control challenges using digital filtering and validation testing on flight hardware. Engage with missile state estimation and compensation for flexible body effects.
Build flight control system architectures, requirements, control laws, and algorithms to maximize performance and robustness. Obtain and maintain special access program clearance. Contribute to a safer world through Raytheon's engineering expertise defending freedoms.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior flight controls engineering experience
- Experience in endo-atmospheric flight control or exo-atmospheric flight control
- Experience with digital filtering
- Experience with validation testing of flight control software on flight hardware
- Experience developing or modifying code in higher level compiled languages such as Fortran, Ada, and/or C++
- Experience with MATLAB and/or Simulink
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance prior to start date; U.S. citizenship required
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of advanced controls and inertial sensors to flight controls design and analysis of missile performance in simulation, ground test, and flight test
- Develop solutions to complex control problems and contribute to uncovering and resolving issues related to development and implementation of flight controls systems
- Provide guidance and oversight for the flight controls function on program efforts, from the planning phase through program execution
- Develop flight control system architectures and requirements, implement control laws and design flight controls algorithms to maximize program performance and robustness
- Develop missile state estimation algorithms, as well as derive algorithms and filters to compensate for flexible body, aeroservoelastic effects, and inertial coupling
- Obtain and maintain special access program clearance
