Spire Global is a leading provider of space-based data, analytics, and services, helping organizations make better decisions with insights from our constellation of satellites. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical outcome of complex space missions. You will ensure operational excellence by building the right thing and building it right.

You will translate higher-level requirements down to lower-level requirements, consulting and collaborating with discipline team-leads and subject matter experts. Manage system requirements, technical budgets, and sub-system interfaces. Ensure sufficient verification and testing of the system for technical performance outcomes.

Serve as the overall technical lead for Spire-internal and external teams, including customers and contractors, resolving technical discrepancies in requirements or performance. Act as the technical point of contact for global customers during mission development and on-orbit validation. Collaborate with project managers for effective communication.

Your knowledge and experience across multiple technical disciplines will coordinate Spire's technical efforts for ultimate mission success. Support sales engineering in mission contracting, requirements development, and scope definition. Develop and maintain mission documentation for internal and external use.

Requirements

  • BSc in Engineering, Computer Science, equivalent STEM-related subject, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience working in a technical engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Controls, RF)
  • Experience with requirements flow-down, validation, and verification in complex systems
  • Familiarity with satellite platforms, ground systems, payloads, and mission interfaces
  • Knowledge of technical risk management in space mission programs
  • Experience managing system interfaces, technical budgets, and performance outcomes
  • Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation for missions

Responsibilities

  • Take overall technical ownership of Spire Space and/or Ground Systems from technical development through on-orbit verification
  • Lead requirements management for a given mission or program including development, validation, verification, and change management
  • Lead technical risk management for a given mission or program including identification, qualification, mitigation, and resolution
  • Develop top-level requirements and flow-down to lower-levels, consulting and collaborating with discipline team-leads and subject matter experts
  • Serve as the primary Spire technical POC to customers and contractors, communicating and advocating for internal technical teams
  • Serve as the customer's technical representative to Spire-internal teams, communicating customer requirements and expectations
  • Develop working knowledge of Spire's satellite platforms, operations systems, and payloads including customer APIs and software interfaces
  • Proactively communicate to program/project managers where changes impact mission scope, requirements, or performance
