About this role

POWERTECH is a center of excellence for propulsion technologies, specializing in combustion engines, expendable turbojet engines, and turbofan engines for aerospace, defence, and UAV applications. Powertech Abu Dhabi seeks a Senior Turbomachinery Aerodynamics Engineer for the Advanced Fluid Systems team. This role leads aerodynamic design of next-generation turbomachinery for propulsion and power generation.

You will drive aerodynamic innovation across centrifugal and axial compressors, fans, and turbines from concept definition through CFD analysis, rig testing, and validation. Responsibilities include developing 1D meanline models, generating bladed geometries, and producing performance maps. Daily work involves high-fidelity simulations and analysis of complex flow phenomena like stall and surge.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and customers across the product lifecycle. Serve as technical owner for major modules such as High-Pressure Compressor or Fan. Support turbine aerodynamics and advanced R&T initiatives with aerothermal and structural teams.

This position advances high-performance fluid and propulsion technologies in a dynamic environment. Contribute to fully integrated solutions meeting performance, efficiency, and durability targets. Ideal for engineers passionate about turbomachinery development.

Requirements

  • Expertise in aerodynamic design of centrifugal and axial compressors, fans, and turbines
  • Proficiency in high-fidelity CFD simulations with ANSYS CFX, Fluent, and NUMECA Fine/Turbo
  • Experience generating meshes using ICEM, TurboGrid, and AutoGrid
  • Knowledge of complex flow phenomena including stall, surge, secondary flows, high Mach effects, FSI, flutter, and conjugate heat transfer
  • Familiarity with 1D meanline and throughflow modeling for turbomachinery
  • Background in rig testing, validation, performance characterization, and stall mapping
  • Ability to assess as-built hardware and correlate experimental results with predictions

Responsibilities

  • Lead the aerodynamic design and optimization of centrifugal and axial turbomachinery, including compressors, fans, and turbine components
  • Serve as technical owner for at least one major module: High-Pressure Compressor (HPC), Low-Pressure Compressor (LPC), or Fan
  • Design and optimize airfoils, blade rows, and flowpaths to meet performance, efficiency, durability, and operability targets
  • Develop 1D meanline and throughflow models, generate bladed geometries, and produce detailed aerodynamic performance maps
  • Conduct high-fidelity CFD simulations using ANSYS CFX, Fluent, and NUMECA Fine/Turbo for on-design and off-design conditions
  • Generate high-quality computational meshes using ICEM, TurboGrid, and AutoGrid
  • Lead test planning, execution, data reduction, and post-test analysis for rig and engine testing
  • Contribute to turbine aerodynamic design, Research & Technology (R&T) initiatives, and advanced turbine technologies
