Chart Industries is seeking an Aerodynamics Engineer to join teams in Beasley or Stafford, Texas. The role centers on turbomachinery aerodynamics within the gas and oil industry. Candidates bring expertise in fundamental aerodynamics principles and their practical application to rotating equipment.
Daily work involves sizing expander and compressor wheels for optimal performance using specialized modeling software. Engineers conduct feasibility studies during bid stages and run high-fidelity CFD simulations for performance validation. Collaboration with mechanical teams ensures designs meet manufacturing and structural requirements.
The position supports shop testing of expanders and compressors while resolving aerodynamic issues that arise during programs. Team members drive innovation to enhance overall aerodynamic performance and expand the use of available analysis tools across projects.
Opportunities exist to lead development of new methods and implement best practices for aerodynamic design. The environment values technical coaching and the ability to guide organizations through technical changes in turbomachinery applications.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with Aerodynamics development and integration pertaining to turbomachinery
- Track record of developing new methods/enablers, overcoming technical challenges and leading change
- Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on fluid mechanics
- Exposure and understanding of CFD techniques and software capabilities
- Exposure and understanding of 1D and 2D wheel design tools
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and integrate solutions
Responsibilities
- Utilize tools to perform expander/compressor wheel sizing for optimal machine performance
- Perform feasibility studies and provide expected performance for projects in bid stages
- Design expander and compressor wheels and nozzles using provided modeling and analytic software
- Perform reliable, high-fidelity CFD simulations to support performance validation
- Work with mechanical engineers to ensure wheel designs are manufacturable and mechanically sound
- Provide support for expander and compressor performance shop tests
- Lead development and implement innovation to improve Aerodynamics performance
- Provide significant guidance resolving and troubleshooting program aerodynamic issues
