Hermeus is a high-speed aircraft manufacturer focused on the rapid design, build, and test of high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft for the national interest. Working directly with the Department of Defense, it delivers capabilities ensuring asymmetric advantage over adversaries. Propulsion Test Engineering Interns support engine and system-level testing on the Propulsion Test team.

You will work closely with engineers and technicians to set up test campaigns, monitor data, and troubleshoot issues. This includes assisting in designing, setting up, and operating test stands for propulsion systems. Interns help instrument test setups and analyze performance data for improvements.

The team constantly iterates and integrates, testing early and often to minimize technical and program risk. Test campaigns span development, operational, and certification testing in a real-world environment. Interns partner to refine processes and enhance safety procedures.

This role contributes directly to Hermeus’ hypersonic development efforts in Jacksonville. Duration is around 16 weeks for Fall 2026, building deeper understanding of propulsion systems. Talented STEM students join for hands-on involvement in national security missions.

Requirements

  • Practical experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through internships, studies, or projects
  • Currently enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university (third or fourth year undergraduate, Master's, or Ph.D.)
  • Strong interest in propulsion systems and testing
  • Strong understanding of engineering first principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams
  • Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus's mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or eligible for deemed export licensing

Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced engineers in designing, setting up, and operating test stands for propulsion system testing
  • Instrument test setups, monitor test conditions, and analyze performance data for system improvements and troubleshooting
  • Partner with engineers and technicians to refine test processes and enhance safety procedures
  • Support engine and system-level testing campaigns spanning development and operational phases
  • Contribute to test article preparation and post-test data review in hypersonic propulsion environments
  • Monitor high-performance propulsion systems during live tests and identify anomalies
