Tampa, US · Full-time · $140,000 – $180,000

About this role

Metrea delivers effects-as-a-service to national security partners across airborne ISR, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerial refueling, and special mission aviation. The Aerospace Design (ASD) group provides organic design engineering and FAA-authorized certification for rapid modification of mission-specific aircraft. As Lead Avionics Engineer, you guide engineers designing and certifying avionics integrations into general aviation, business, transport, and military derivative aircraft.

You provide direct supervision of the avionics design team, setting priorities, tracking labor, and conducting performance appraisals. Coordinate with management and team leads to align resources with organizational goals. Review project requirements, Statements of Work, interconnect drawings using AutoCad and PLM software, and installation data packages for compliance.

Within the Aerospace Engineering Group (AERO), the Airborne Asset Adaptation (A3) Cell manages requirements from inception to delivery. The Aircraft Integration Centre (AIC), a Part 145 facility, handles airframe modifications alongside ASD's certification efforts. This integrated structure bridges initial requirements to flight-certified, mission-ready assets.

Apply electrical engineering standards through technical reviews, team guidance, and CAD enforcement in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate attention to detail while multi-tasking. Support major alterations and Supplemental Type Certificate development under FAA and Peregrine ODA protocols.

Requirements

  • Four-year engineering degree preferred
  • 8-15 years working experience in designing/engineering and installation of avionics systems upgrades, ideally in a special missions modification environment
  • 2-5 years of engineering leadership experience preferred
  • USA Passport, available for domestic & international travel (occasional)
  • Experience reviewing and approving interconnect drawings using AutoCad and PLM software
  • Knowledge of FAA Supplemental Type Certificate development and Peregrine ODA processes

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of the avionics design team, including setting priorities and expectations, labor tracking and employee performance appraisals
  • Coordinate with management and other team leads to determine priorities, identify issues and apply resources in support of organizational goals
  • Review project requirements including Statement(s) of Work
  • Review and approve interconnect drawings for all affected avionics systems using AutoCad and PLM software
  • Review installation data packages, including systems and electrical fabrication, assembly and installation drawings, master data lists, drawings and reports, for compliance with project requirements
  • Apply electrical engineering standards to drawing development by providing technical reviews, team guidance and enforcement of provided CAD templates, formats and standards
