The company seeks an experienced Software Lead with expertise in DO-254 and DO-178C standards to oversee certification processes for airborne hardware and software systems.

The Software Lead will refine and implement process development per DO-254 for hardware and DO-178C for software. They will write and update process documents while overseeing preparation, review, and submission of certification artifacts like PHAC and Compliance Reports. Daily work involves coordinating with cross-functional teams to integrate certification into the development lifecycle.

This role requires working closely with engineering teams, regulatory bodies, project stakeholders, certification authorities, and customers. The position supports a geographically and culturally diverse team across remote locations in Canada or the US. Expect 5-10% travel for audits and reviews.

Technical leadership includes guidance on standards like ARP4754A, ARP4761, and AC20-152A, plus verification, validation, and risk management. The role offers opportunities to participate in SOI audits with DERs and ensure aviation safety compliance. Professionals will act as a primary liaison for certification concerns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in aerospace certification with a strong background in DO-254 or DO-178C
  • Hands-on experience in preparing certification artifacts and supporting compliance activities
  • Strong understanding of safety assessments, system engineering practices, and quality assurance standards

Responsibilities

  • Refine and implement process development processes in accordance with DO-254 (hardware) and DO-178C (software) standards
  • Write and update DO-254 and DO-178C process documents
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of key certification artifacts, including PHAC, Hardware Plans, Compliance Checklists, and Compliance Reports
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate certification requirements into the system development lifecycle
  • Provide guidance on best practices for hardware and software certification per ARP4754A, ARP4761, and AC20-152A
  • Ensure robust verification, validation, and traceability processes for hardware and software components
  • Prepare for and participate in certification audits, including SOI audits by regulatory authorities and DERs
  • Identify and mitigate certification risks while acting as liaison between teams, authorities, and customers
