About this role
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, developing multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. We are building sustainable infrastructure for transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
We will be designing and building clean sheet advanced liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen pumps for our Lunar Lander. You will provide technical leadership to a team designing multiple pumps across a broad range of pressures and flow rates. This position encompasses mentoring and technical leadership to drive pump ecosystem strategy, design, and delivery.

You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System Sustaining Lunar Development program. This will require dedication and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight.

Requirements
- B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related technical subject area
- 8+ years of experience in cryogenic turbomachinery design
- Expertise in pump design aspects such as mechanical/thermal design, rotor dynamics, secondary flows, hydro design, or bearing selection
- Strong project management skills and ability to mentor and technically lead a diverse team of engineers across multiple complex development programs
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills with ability to directly collaborate with external parties including government and commercial entities
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Willingness to work on-site with occasional travel
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to a team designing multiple pumps across a broad range of pressures and flow rates
- Lead development of multiple cryogenic pump designs for space applications
- Mentor and technically lead a team of early career and experienced engineers
- Drive pump ecosystem strategy, design, and delivery
- Participate in complete life cycle from requirements definition, analysis, design, development, assembly, verification, and operation
- Design clean sheet advanced liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen pumps
