About this role

Varda is accelerating the development of commercial space infrastructure, from in-orbit pharmaceutical processing to reliable and economical reentry capsules. The Propulsion Engineer takes ownership of ground propulsion fluid systems for Varda spacecraft. Expertise ensures reliability and performance of systems essential to mission success.

Architect, design, build, and operate ground fluid systems supporting spacecraft fueling, testing, and launch preparation. Lead and execute propellant loading operations across multiple Varda sites. Define and own processes for propellant handling, ensuring commodities meet specifications for flight.

Team comprised of veterans from SpaceX, Blue Origin, major pharmaceutical companies and Silicon Valley. Varda headquartered in El Segundo, California, with offices and production facility for vehicles, equipment, and materials. Additional offices in Washington, DC and Huntsville, AL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field
  • 2+ years in propulsion fluid system definition, design, build, and test for spacecraft or rockets
  • Understanding of fluid system components such as pressurized hardware, tubing, fittings, seals, valves, instrumentation, etc.
  • Experience authoring and executing operational procedures for test or flight
  • Experience authoring and interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Proficient with CAD and product lifecycle management software
  • Willingness and ability to take ownership of problems and drive projects to completion
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic highly technical environment

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, build, and operate ground fluid systems for Varda spacecraft
  • Lead and execute propellant loading operations across multiple Varda sites
  • Define and own process for propellant handling and ensuring commodities meet specifications for flight
  • Author and execute operational procedures for test or flight
  • Author and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Select and integrate fluid system components such as pressurized hardware, tubing, fittings, seals, valves, instrumentation
