We seek an experienced rocket engine design engineer for monopropellant and bipropellant thrusters used in strategic missiles, LEO, GEO, and exploration missions with thrust from 0.2 lbf to over 500 lbf. The role requires ability to obtain U.S. DoD Security Clearance and access export-controlled information. Lead new engine designs to support customer missions.
Work onsite in Niagara Falls, NY, leading engine design including injectors, nozzles, chambers, and valve requirements. Oversee analyses like combustion, thermal, structural, dynamic, and plume. Plan test campaigns and mentor other engineers using Teamcenter/NX.
Develop product requirements by consulting customers and sales, translating to engineering strategies. Build customer contacts as a subject matter expert and support pursuits across Moog units. Enjoy deeper job satisfaction, better rewards, and great quality of life in a trusting environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with 12 years of proven industry experience in space rocket engine design; MS or PhD preferred
- At least 12 years of progressive experience, with 5 years leading or supporting development projects
- Experience interfacing with customers and demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to mentor and coach other engineers
- Ability to understand new technical concepts and products, assess risks, and take appropriate action
- Experience designing rocket engines for large scale, large volume production with design for manufacturing (DFM) mindset preferred
- Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance and access to U.S. export-controlled information
Responsibilities
- Lead the overall engine design including injector, nozzle/chamber, and valve requirements for bipropellant/monopropellant use cases
- Support, oversee, or conduct detailed analysis for rocket engines including combustion, thermal, structural, dynamic, and plume analyses
- Plan the overall test campaign for the engine to demonstrate compliance with customer requirements
- Mentor and coach other design engineers in various engine/system applications
- Work in Teamcenter/NX or comparable CAD to generate conceptual designs/drawings
- Develop new product requirements through consulting with customers and sales personnel and translate to actionable engineering strategies
- Build and establish contacts with the customer base and serve as a recognized subject matter expert
- Validate conceptual problem solutions by performing trade studies and analyses
