About this role

The Human Landing System (HLS) Propulsion Systems Engineer works in a highly integrated team performing technical and integration activities. They support main propulsion systems and launch vehicles for the Human Lander program. This role provides technical insight into NASA-partner engine systems and vehicle propulsion design.

Daily tasks involve following the HLS partner Systems Engineering approach to design, development, integration, and test. Engineers conduct data analysis, anomaly resolution, and reviews of provider deliverables like milestone products, hazards, verifications, risks, and test reports. They develop models, analysis tools, and documentation including trade studies and hazard assessments.

The team environment emphasizes attending technical interchanges, project planning, design reviews, and meetings. This maintains current knowledge of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolutions. Requirements

  • Understanding of systems engineering approaches for propulsion design, development, integration, and test
  • Experience in data analysis and anomaly resolution for aerospace propulsion systems
  • Knowledge of reviewing propulsion provider deliverables including hazards, verifications, risks, and test reports
  • Familiarity with NASA-partner engine systems and Human Landing System propulsion development
  • Proficiency in developing propulsion models, analysis tools, trade studies, and hazard assessments
  • Expertise in in-space environment modeling, fault tolerance designs, and flight certifications
  • Ability to evaluate propulsion system model performance in ground and flight operations

Responsibilities

  • Follow and understand the HLS partner Systems Engineering approach to design, development, integration, and test
  • Perform data analysis and anomaly resolution as needed
  • Review and provide assessments of HLS provider deliverables such as milestone products, hazards, verifications, risks, and test reports
  • Support the Human Lander program through technical insight, reviews, risk assessments, and recommendations on NASA-partner engine systems and vehicle propulsion system design and development
  • Develop models and analysis tools, provide analytical documentation such as trade studies, hazards assessments, fault tolerance designs, certifications for flight, and launch vehicle data reviews
  • Provide insight and recommendations for subsystem and vehicle in-space environment model fidelity
  • Evaluate performance of system models in ground and flight operations
  • Attend technical interchange, project planning, design review, and other appropriate meetings to maintain current knowledge base of design, requirements, issues, action items, and resolution activities
