About this role

At Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector, the Propulsion Engineer is responsible for design elements associated with cast propellant in solid rocket motors. The role supports a variety of government and commercial programs while developing solutions that meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements.

Daily work centers on creating accurate 3D models and specifications for next-generation rocket motor designs. Engineers participate in teams focused on design, test, and production while performing problem solving and on-floor production support.

The position requires close interaction with specialists in Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Thermal, Structural, Materials, and Test. Collaboration improves the loaded motor design process through test data, innovative analysis, and uncertainty quantification techniques.

Documentation and briefings are prepared for design reviews presented to internal and external customers. This role offers the chance to contribute to revolutionary systems that shape history in aerospace propulsion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in classical Engineering
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Willingness to learn propellant cast processes, specifications, drawings, and analysis methods
  • Ability to travel 0% – 5%
  • Must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)
  • Experience performing design engineering tasks for Level 2

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, on-time 3D models and specifications for next generation rocket motor designs
  • Participate in engineering teams associated with the design, test, and production of rocket motors
  • Interact with development teams to certify design solutions that meet all technical, cost, and schedule requirements
  • Engage with multi-discipline teams to improve the loaded motor design process using test data and new analysis techniques
  • Develop and present documentation for project briefings and design reviews to internal and external customers
  • Perform problem solving and anomaly resolution including on-floor production support
