Anduril

Costa Mesa, US · Full-time · $146,000 – $194,000

About this role

Anduril Industries transforms U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology, powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system for realtime command and control. The Space team expands these capabilities into space for enhanced Space Domain Awareness, Space Control, and Command and Control. As Propulsion Engineer, you contribute to designing satellite propulsion subsystems including chemical, electric, and hybrid systems.

You possess deep knowledge of state-of-the-art propulsion systems and their applicability to different mission threads. Responsibilities include owning delta-V budgets, developing test plans for ground checkout and on-orbit operations, and creating fueling procedures. You assist with implementing propulsion into spacecraft systems while integrating with ground and orbital flight software.

The propulsion team collaborates closely with spacecraft design, GNC, ground, and flight software teams to enable complex missions with maneuvering capabilities. This role supports resilient, software-defined spacecraft across numerous mission threads for DOD and IC partners. Work occurs within ongoing, funded programs in Anduril’s Space Business Line.

You coordinate with bus providers, end-users, and customers to balance needs with engineering constraints on tight schedules. Efforts ensure successful design, test, and operations of propulsion subsystems onboard Anduril’s fleet. This position deploys reliable capabilities on operationally-relevant timelines to meet complex space challenges.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of state-of-the-art propulsion systems including chemical, electric, and hybrid
  • Understanding of propulsion applicability to different mission threads and orbital regimes
  • Experience with delta-V budgeting and propulsion subsystem sizing for spacecraft
  • Familiarity with spacecraft integration including GNC, ground software, and flight software
  • Ability to develop test plans for propulsion validation in ground and on-orbit environments
  • Knowledge of fueling plans, procedures, and safety for propulsion systems
  • Experience coordinating propulsion implementation with bus providers and mission partners
  • Understanding of licensing requirements for transporting fueled or pressurized containers

Responsibilities

  • Support spacecraft propulsion subsystems for various spacecraft programs in all orbital regimes and work with bus providers
  • Develop modern, software-defined approaches to autonomous spacecraft operations with maneuvering capabilities
  • Own delta-V budgets and propulsion subsystem sizing to satisfy mission requirements
  • Develop test plans and procedures to validate propulsion system during ground checkout, on-orbit calibration, commissioning, and operations
  • Develop fueling plans and procedures for the implemented propulsion system
  • Collaborate across multiple teams to plan, build, and test complex functionality
  • Coordinate with end-users, operators, and customers to turn needs into features
  • Support challenging schedules during ground testing, launch windows, and on-orbit operations
