About this role
This is more than an engineering role; it's an opportunity to be the chief architect of our aircraft's entire avionics suite. Take complete ownership of the avionics system—from selecting the first sensor to certifying the final integrated cockpit. Lead a talented team and make critical design decisions.
Define the end-to-end avionics architecture ensuring seamless integration of all subsystems. Lead trade studies and selection of major components like flight displays, Communication/Navigation/Surveillance equipment, flight data recorders, and cabin systems. Oversee physical and logical integration with flight controls and high-voltage powertrain.
Design and manage System Integration Labs, Hardware-in-the-Loop Test Stations, and other benches for verification and validation. Develop certification strategy and generate documentation for compliance. The ePlane Company, incubated at IIT Madras, pioneers India's urban air mobility with compact electric flying taxis.
Join a passionate team of engineers and visionaries building cutting-edge technology for door-to-door flying. Reduce commute times and decongest cities for a cleaner future. Bring deep passion for avionics and proven history of integrating complex aircraft systems to lead this charge.
Requirements
- 10+ years of direct, hands-on experience in the development and integration of avionics systems for certified aircraft
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- Proven Leadership: Demonstrable experience leading engineering projects or mentoring junior engineers
- Hands-on Suite Integration: Proven experience taking a full avionics suite from component selection through to fully integrated and tested system on an iron bird, HITS, or aircraft
- Deep Systems Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of integrated flight decks (e.g., Garmin G1000/G3000, Honeywell Primus Apex)
- Expert-level understanding of Flight Management Systems (FMS) and cockpit display page modeling
- Expert-level understanding of warning systems like Ground Proximity Warning Systems (GPWS/TAWS)
- Expert-level understanding of CNS Equipment: COM/NAV radios, transponders (Mode S, ADS-B), GPS/GNSS receivers
Responsibilities
- Lead the Avionics Team: Mentor, guide, and manage a team of avionics engineers, fostering technical excellence and collaborative problem-solving
- Architect the System: Define the end-to-end avionics architecture ensuring seamless and robust integration of all subsystems
- Drive Component Selection: Lead trade studies and selection of major avionics components, including flight displays, Communication/Navigation/Surveillance (CNS) equipment, flight data recorders, and cabin systems
- Champion Integration: Plan and oversee physical and logical integration of the avionics suite with flight controls and high-voltage powertrain
- Establish Test Infrastructure: Design, set up, and manage System Integration Labs (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop Test Stations (HITS), and other verification benches
- Oversee Certification: Develop certification strategy for the avionics system and generate necessary documentation for compliance
