Boeing Commercial Airplanes is hiring Mid-Level or Senior Propulsion Engineers specializing in Engine Performance to support Propulsion System Engineering in the Puget Sound area. In the Engine Operability role, you will play a critical part in engine and airframe integration. This work supports the Propulsion Organization, a world-class team of over 1000 engineers across the product life cycle from development to certification and fleet support. Requirements

  • Robust Engine Performance and Operability background
  • In-depth understanding of gas turbine engine thermodynamics and performance characteristics
  • Knowledge of FAA & EASA regulatory compliance processes
  • Proficiency in calculating in-flight thrust and understanding implications
  • Strong data analysis skills for resolving complex engine operability and performance challenges
  • Clear technical communication abilities
  • Leadership skills for engine and airframe integration

Responsibilities

  • Analyze steady-state engine performance and detailed thermodynamic cycle data with in-depth understanding of gas turbine engine thermodynamics and performance characteristics
  • Assess engine operation across various conditions and certify operating characteristics using knowledge of FAA & EASA regulatory compliance processes
  • Analyze and communicate engine performance impacts on airplane subsystem performance, including proficiency in calculating in-flight thrust and its implications
  • Collaborate with disciplines across the airplane such as Aero, Environmental Controls, Mech/Hyd, and Thermal to provide engine performance expertise on cross-functional system impacts
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and contribute to certification documentation with familiarity in means-of-compliance
  • Conduct data analysis and risk assessments for flight tests to support flight test planning and performance evaluations
  • Coordinate with engine supplier(s) on engine/airplane performance throughout an airplane program's lifecycle
